Between forests, lakes and mountains, the Vosges unveil their secrets...
Situated at the end of the Masevaux valley, in the Ballons des Vosges Regional Nature Park, the village of Sewen nestles at an altitude of 500 m at the foot of the Ballon d'Alsace. It's an ideal location from which to explore our magnificent Vosges region, to be enjoyed in summer and winter alike.
Lovers of nature and outdoor activities will appreciate the proximity of the Ballon d'Alsace resort and the Seebach canyon, between the Sewen and Alfed lakes, where they can enjoy lovely walks along the many paths that lead from the centre of Sewen into the Doller valley. On your walks, you'll come across picturesque villages and numerous farm inns offering delicious local produce (barkass, lard, boudins, fleischnacka, cheeses, etc.). You'll also be able to buy ‘cœur de massif’ cheese from the Holschlag farm, Dioller's craft brewery in Oberbruck, biscuits, pastries and Alsatian delicacies from ‘Emma's gingerbread house’ in Rimbach, and Marie-Hélène's young bee-keeping business ‘Vie en miel’ in Sewen. You'll also be able to buy some of these local products from us.
Wine-lovers will want to take the famous Alsace Wine Route, which starts in the small town of Thann, just 30 minutes from our hotel.

The Alsace Wine Route
A 30-minute drive from the hotel takes you to the small town of Thann, the starting point of the famous wine route. Whether you want to discover the beautiful countryside, traditional Alsatian villages or the finest wine estates, you're sure to find what you're looking for.

Farmhouse inns
Farm inns are emblematic of our region. They're a great place to take a break from hiking and discover traditional Alsatian and Vosges agriculture and livestock farming, while sampling home-made products. Try a good piece of bargkass, a typical pressed cheese made from cow's milk and served with smoked bacon.

The Ballon d'Alsace in winter
In winter, make the most of this family-friendly ski resort where you can discover the joys of skiing in a small area. Downhill skiing, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing or sledging, you can do it all on beautiful snowy days. If you fancy a new experience, you can also enjoy a dog-sleigh ride, but remember to book in advance, as this activity is very popular!
The Ballon d'Alsace in summer and spring
In spring and summer, there are some great walks on offer at the summit and in the surrounding area, and for thrill-seekers, why not go paragliding?
The Ballon d'Alsace Adventure Park
You can also spend a great day at the Ballon d'Alsace Adventure Park, where you'll find a tree climbing course, a motorised zip line, acrobatic bubbles... activities for young and old to enjoy. You can also hire electrically-assisted mountain bikes to enjoy the mountain scenery by bike.
The Dioller craft brewery
In Oberbruck, a small village just outside Sewen, you'll find the Dioller craft brewery, established in 2014. During the summer, you can visit the brewery upon reservation and buy traditional beers, either individually or in a gift box!
Emma's gingerbread house
A few kilometres further on, in Rimbach, Emmanuelle runs ‘Emma's gingerbread house’, where you'll find all sorts of Alsatian biscuits, pastries and delicacies you're sure to love! You'll have the chance to sample one of her products in your hotel room, as a gingerbread biscuit will be waiting for you as a welcome gift. Don't forget to give her a call before you go, she'll be happy to prepare your souvenir gift packs for your visit to Alsace.
Life in Honey
In Sewen, Marie-Hélène has set up ‘La Vie en Miel’, a young beekeeping business. She specialises in producing 6 honeys and transforming the fruits of her orchards into sweet honey jams. Hiking from Sewen
The Doller valley is renowned for its hiking trails, offering you lush, varied landscapes of forest, river, lakes and mountains.
From Sewen, if you want to start on foot from the hotel, simply walk up to the centre of the village, where the various signposted footpaths start. You can go to:
- Sewen lake (30-minute walk)
- Alfeld lake, via the waterfalls path (1-hour walk)
- the Ballon d'Alsace (3-hour walk)
- Hufels (45-minute walk), a viewpoint above the village of Sewen.
Hiking from Ermensbach
In Ermensbach, a 5-minute drive from Sewen, you'll find one of the main car parks for hikers, the starting point for a number of circuits. You can walk to:
- Neuweiher lake (about 1 hour 30 minutes' walk)
- Perches lake
- Haute Bers (a large high-altitude meadow with a refuge)
- Gressons farm.
And that's just a small sample of what's in store for you on the region's hiking trails! Come and discover them while staying at the hotel, and make sure you wear good shoes! A hiking map for the whole valley and the Ballon d'Alsace is available at reception.
Burcklé Barn
In Masevaux (10 minutes by car), you'll find the Burcklé Barn, a small theatre where various concerts and plays are performed. Season runs from April to October.
The Thur Doller train
Take a trip back in time on this tourist train, which runs by steam or railcar on the Cernay St André - Sentheim line, with 12 km of track through the Alsatian countryside. Every Sunday from June to September, and a few days a week in July and August. Don't forget to book your tickets!
Rougemont Golf Club
Whether you're a beginner or an experienced amateur, if you love golf, this 18-hole course won't disappoint you. Situated just 20 minutes from the hotel and open all year round, this magnificent course allows you to take advantage of lush greenery and enjoy a moment of peace and quiet, alone or to share.
The Train City
The Train City, an SNCF (French national railways society) heritage museum, is open all year round.
As soon as you enter, you'll be plunged into the corridors of history, finding in each maze the impact of rail transport on the daily lives of the French. 27 items of rolling stock will open up to your memory like a book about the past.
